2019 Assmannshausen Frankenthal Spätburgunder trocken "Zenit", Rheingau, Germany

Firm and quite deep, delicately smoky and restrained woody spicy aroma of ripe black and red berries with fine herbal and tobacco nuances, floral hints, fleshy-animalic tones and dark ethereal spice. Tart, still undeveloped fruit with moderate wood spice, mushroom and earthy tones, peppery and hints of juniper on the palate, smoky hints, lots of salt, fine, harmonious tannins, good depth, firm core, very good, grippy, tart finish. Definitely needs to mature.
