Weingut Richard Richter

The winery is located in the municipality of Winningen (area of Burg Cochem) in the German Moselle wine region. It was founded in 1838 by Richard Richter and is now managed by Claus-Martin Richter and his cousin Thomas. The vineyards comprise almost seven hectares of vineyards in the Winningen locations Brückstück, Domgarten, Hamm, Röttgen and Uhlen. They are 90% planted with Riesling, as well as Pinot Noir, Early Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay. Although the vaulted cellar under the winery building is filled with wooden barrels, these have not been used for ageing the wines since 1995. However, the romantic atmosphere is still used for representative purposes. The Rieslings are aged in stainless steel tanks, the Pinot Noirs in used barriques. For some time now, the top wines have been sealed with stainless steel crown corks of the "Stainless Cap" brand. Since 1987, bottle-fermented estate sparkling wines have also been produced from Riesling.
