The winery is located in the municipality of Piesport (Bernkastel area) in the German wine-growing region of
Mosel. The family winery has been involved in winegrowing here since 1337. In 1968, Hugo Schwang took over the management of the winery from his grandparents Matthias Reuscher and Elisabeth Haart. His son Mario studied "Beverage Technology and Enology" at the
Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences and took over the estate from his father in mid-2005. The vineyards cover 4.5 hectares of vines in the Piesport sites Falkenberg,
Domherr,
Goldtröpfchen and Treppchen. They are 95% planted with Riesling, as well as some Rivaner and Regent.
Integrated pest management without acaricides (mites) and
insecticides has been practised since 1987. The vineyards are completely planted with vegetation and wide rows of vines guarantee optimal exposure to sunlight and light. The quality concept is based on limited yields of 6,000 to 7,000 litres per hectare, later selective harvesting by hand, gentle grape processing (without the addition of enzymes), only first pressing for estate bottlings, extremely cold fermentation, around three months of storage on
fine yeast, filtration only after natural self-clarification (without clarification aids, blue fining, gelatine and
metatartaric acid) and cold sterile filling (mostly April to July). Grape juice, wine vinegar and bottle-fermented sparkling wine are also produced
