The winery is located in the municipality of Kleinbottwar (Württembergisch Unterland area) in the German wine-growing region of
Württemberg. It was founded in 1981 by Reinhard Schäfer, who learned the winemaking trade at the renowned
Aldinger winery (Fellbach). The vineyards cover just under five hectares, mainly in the single vineyard Götzenberg (Kleinbottwar). They are 70% planted with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Black Riesling, Trollinger, Lemberger, Dornfelder, Cabernet Dorsa, Samtrot and Merlot, and 30% with the white wine varieties Riesling, Pinot Gris, Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Gewürztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc. Since spring 2009, the winery has been converting to
organic viticulture; it is also a member of the
ECOVIN association. The white wines are mainly matured in stainless steel, the red wines in 600-litre wooden barrels or in barriques after the classic mash fermentation, depending on the desired wine type. In suitable years, ice wines are also pressed. Rosé wines, noble brandies (marc, fruit) and bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced
