The winery is located in the municipality of Winningen (Burg Cochem area) in the German
Moselle wine-growing region. The family's wine-growing tradition dates back to 1642. The estate, which traded under the name "Gebrüder Knebel", was divided among family members in 1989. With his wife Beate, Reinhard Knebel (+2004) took over a 1.7 hectare share. After studying in
Geisenheim and gaining practical experience at well-known wineries, son Matthias Knebel is responsible. Today, the vineyards cover just under seven hectares. The largest part is located in the extremely steep
Röttgen site. Here, the Riesling vines are on average 40 years old, some of them
ungrafted, and are planted in the traditional single-pole method. The rest is distributed among the Bruckstück, Hamm and
Uhlen sites
Riesling and some Pinot Blanc are cultivated for the most part. After consistent yield reduction and strictly selective harvesting, the grapes are pre-sorted again before pressing, if necessary. The must is then fermented
spontaneously with natural yeasts in wood and stainless steel. Great importance is attached to the traditional natural wine concept. In addition to the dry wines, there are regularly sweet Rieslings. Only for the latter are Prädikat designations used
