2018 Bingen Scharlachberg Riesling Grosses Gewächs trocken, Rheinhessen, Germany

Taut, clearly herbal aroma with restrained, tart yellow-fruity citrus aromas, some stone fruit, sweet mango, already smellable, fine phenolic and mineral hints. Juicy, partly candied, ripe, quite sweet fruit with fine acidity and grip of crumbly tannin, lots of mango, also caramel, persistent on the palate, a little smoky in the background, nutty hints, some depth, spicy notes and minerality, slightly creamy texture, but also backbone, very good, firm, juicy and spicy finish with candy notes. Much more convincing than a year ago, when it was still a little indifferent.

Editor note: Somewhat dried, planty, waxy and floral scent of partly candied yellow fruits with peppery-spicy and petrol-like hints. Ripe, warm, partly candied, quite sweet fruit, fine acidity, some grip, dried-vegetable to tobacco aromas, some melting, red berry traces, somewhat warm on the palate, relatively soft contours, very good, again somewhat sweet finish with some minerality and herbal notes as well as again some dark berry hints.
