The winery is located in the municipality of Zellerndorf near
Retz in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of
Weinviertel. It has been run by Franz and Petra Prechtl since 1839 and is now in its fifth generation. The vineyards cover 14 hectares in the Altenfeld, Äußere Bergen, Kirchfeld, Längen, Leitstall and Wartberg vineyards. They are 90% planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner (10 ha), Chardonnay, Welschriesling, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc, and 10% with the red wine varieties Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and Blauer Portugieser. Natural viticulture is practised with, for example,
cover crop, manual removal of weeds and the use of environmentally friendly products. The different terroirs naturally produce very different types of wine. The leading variety Grüner Veltliner has a very special significance with ten hectares, it has been selected on the farm since the 1930s. Therefore, the credo of the winery is very understandable: "
Grüner Veltliner is our strength. It is produced in six varieties, such as the
Weinviertel DAC and the Weinviertel DAC Reserve. In years when the weather is suitable, we also produce an ice wine. Around 60,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. The winery is a member of the associations
Premium-Weingüter Weinviertel and
Weingüter Retzer Land
