The winery is located in the municipality of Bechtheim (Wonnegau area) in the German wine-growing region of Rheinhessen. Its origins date back to 1871, when Georg Geil bought the parent house and thus laid the foundation for viticulture. Son Johann Geil I. Ökonomierat zu Bechtheim was co-founder of the Raiffeisenbank and mayor of Bechtheim for many years. He also gave his name to the winery. Today it is owned by Karl Geil-Bierschenk and his son Dipl. Ing. Johannes Geil-Bierschenk, who is responsible for the cellar after studying in Geisenheim. The total estate is 55 hectares. The vineyards comprise 27 hectares in the single vineyards Geyersberg, Hasensprung, Heiligkreuz, Rosengarten and Stein (Bechtheim). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling (25%), Kerner, Silvaner, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Müller-Thurgau, Rieslaner, Huxelrebe and Scheurebe, as well as with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir, Dornfelder and Blauer Portugieser. After gentle pressing, the wines undergo controlled fermentation, ageing in stainless steel tanks and wooden barrels and early bottling. Specialities of the house are noble sweet selections, berry selections and dry berry selections, as well as ice wines in suitable years. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines and distillates are also produced. The winery is a member of the Rhine-Hesse winegrowers' association Message in a Bottle
