The winery is located in the municipality of
Gamlitz-Grubtal in the Austrian wine growing region of
Southern Styria. The origin is the winery Dreisiebner & Muster, founded in 1974. The partnership lasted 26 years. During this time, the basic building materials were created, eight hectares of land were planted with vines for viticulture and a yard sale including a "Buschenschank" was established as a marketing channel. For health reasons, this operating partnership ended in 2000 and the Muster family also took over the Dreisiebner shares. However, the seven classically matured wines of Dreisiebner & Muster, which were once produced, are still produced. The new brand "Muster.Gamlitz" was founded in 2002. The company is managed by Josef Muster, son Reinhard Muster is responsible for the cellar.
The vineyards cover 15 hectares of vines. They are 90% planted with the white wine varieties Welschriesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Sämling 88 and Muscatel, the rest with Zweigelt. The vineyards are cultivated in a natural, environmentally friendly way according to
KIP rules.
Fertilisation is exclusively by the reintroduction of grape residues.
Plant protection is carried out under the strictest control with preparations that are gentle on beneficial organisms. Temperature-controlled fermentation is carried out with the aid of
yeasts, some of which are carefully selected, or by
spontaneous fermentation. This process takes three to ten weeks. The young wines mature and are stored on the
fine yeast for between three weeks and 36 months, depending on the maturity of the grapes and the desired wine style. The young wines, which are matured in different ways, are cuvéeted and filtered according to variety.
The wines are produced in three lines. The "Classic" line includes youthful, fresh, aromatic wines aged in steel tanks. The "Reverenz" line includes wines with vintage character and storage potential from selected grapes from the Mariengarten, Rieglbauer, Schusterleit'n and Sonnegg sites. Depending on the vintage, the maturity of the grapes and the desired wine type, the ageing takes place in steel tanks, large new and old wooden barrels and in barriques. The premium line "Grubthal" comprises wines from selected grapes without
botrytis from a steep south-western slope at 280 to 320 meters above sea level with sandy, deep soil and a high shell limestone content. These are aged in new barriques for 18 to 36 months. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines, noble brandies and, in years suitable for the weather,
ice wine are also produced.
Once a year a cultural event is organized to which renowned artists from Austria are invited. Friends of the house include Erwin Steinhauer, Erika Pluhar, Dagmar Koller and Edi Luis with his jazz bandits.
