The traditional winery is located in the municipality of Kernen-Stetten (Remstal-Stuttgart area) in the German wine-growing region of
Württemberg. The Medinger family has been growing grapes since 1764. After Barbara Medinger-Schmid graduated as a state-certified viticulture technician in Weinsberg, she started to grow and market wines independently in 1988. The vineyards cover over five hectares of vineyards in the single vineyards Altenberg and Sonnenbühl (Strümpfelbach), as well as Häder, Lindhälder,
Mönchberg and
Pulvermächer (Stetten). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Kerner and Chardonnay, as well as the red wine varieties Trollinger, Lemberger, Dornfelder, Regent, Spätburgunder, Schwarzriesling, Cabernet Cubin and Acolon. Environmentally friendly viticulture is practised with, for example,
cover crop, the use of
predatory mites for pest control, and the use of fungus-resistant grape varieties. The white wines are matured in steel tanks, the red wines in large oak barrels for six to twelve months, and some in barriques for 18 to 24 months. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced
