Best to drink: Bis 2026+. What our ratings mean
Editor note: Clear citrus-stone fruit nose with delicate floral aromas, some minerality and herbal nuances. Clear, fine, relatively sweet fruit with lively acidity and fresh planty to herbal aromas, delicately floral and red berry on the palate, some candy, good persistence, light grip, mineral tones, very good, juicy, again surprisingly fresh finish.
wein.plus rating: 87 WP

Best to drink: 2011-2017+.

Area (also Mittelmosel) of the German Moselle wine-growing region (see details there). Bernkastel-Kues, the municipality that gives the town its name, has a population of around 8,000 and is located on the Middle Moselle in the district of Bernkastel-Wittrich , about 50 kilometres from Trier in the federal state of Rhine Valley Palatinate. It is divided into the four districts of Andel and Bernkastel on the right bank of the Moselle, and Kues and Wehlen on the left bank. Bernkastel-Kues is a state-recognised spa. The single vineyards Alte Badstube am Doctorberg, Bratenhöfchen,...

The wine-growing region is located in Rhineland-Palatinate and to a small extent also in Saarland in Germany. The Moselle River winds its way from Trier to Koblenz over 237 km, but as the crow flies it is only 96 km. The vineyards cover 8,798 hectares of vines, stretching along the Moselle from its headwaters in the Vosges Mountains on the border of Luxembourg to its confluence with the Rhine near Koblenz, as well as along its two tributaries, the Saar and the Ruwer. These three rivers gave the wine-growing region the old name Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, which was valid until 2007. Germany's oldest vineyards are located on...

Germany, or rather the area that is now part of it, has a wine culture that is over two thousand years old. But even before that, imported wine was drunk, as evidenced by a Greek clay wine bottle from around 400 BC found in a Celtic grave. The oldest vineyards were on the banks of the Rhine, Neckar and Moselle. These rivers with their long valleys, as well as their tributaries, are still the classic wine-growing areas today. Viticulture was founded by the colonisation of Gaul by the Greeks and then brought to perfection by Roman culture. The conquest of Gaul by Julius Caesar (100-44 BC) brought Roman viticulture from the RhôneRhône...
