2009 Südtirol / Alto Adige DOC Pinot Nero Mason, Alto Adige, Italy

Light nutty oak and earthy notes on the nose, red and a few black berries, herbaceous notes, some leaves, dried flowers, hint of tobacco, light mineral notes. Ripe, firm, fairly juicy fruit on the palate, toasted, nutty oak, hint of bacon and tobacco, medium-fine, slightly astringent tannins, good substance and persistence, spicy and dried herbaceous aromas, salty mineral notes in the background, good grip, slightly noticeable warm alcohol, very good, fairly juicy and spicy finish. Improves with aeration, and will continue to develop well.

Editor note: Clear, slightly smoky nose, preserved red berries and cassis, moderate slightly nutty oak, earthy and mineral traces in the background. Fairly polished, elegant, juicy fruit on the palate, delicate jammy notes, moderate spicy oak, again with some light nutty notes, fine tannins, fairly creamy, medium body, good persistence and has some depth, mineral notes in the background, very good finish.
