2011 Wintersheim Fraugarten Spätburgunder trocken "Wie alles begann...", Rheinhessen, Germany

Quite dark, somewhat smoky, nutty and hinted mushroomy nose of black berries with a hint of Amarena cherries and plums as well as some herbal and slightly earthy hints. Ripe, firm, tangy fruit with slightly smoky and nutty wood aromas, a hint of long pepper and nuances reminiscent of blackberries, ripe, grippy, very slightly drying tannins, good substance and persistence, very compact structure, dark aromas rather untypical for Pinot Noir, a hint of salt, has power, hints of coffee grounds in the good to very good, slightly nutty, smoky, again very slightly drying finish.
