2016 Ried Ungerberg Blaufränkisch trocken, Burgenland, Austria

Firm, slightly dried floral aroma of ripe mainly black berries and cherries with quite fine herbal aromas and moderate, slightly nutty wood spice. Tart, juicy, again firmly knitted fruit with bite and ripe, fine sandy tannins, some coffee-spicy wood with cocoa notes and hints of milk chocolate, herbal tones in the background, a little salt and liquorice, slight alcohol warmth, very good finish with ripe juice, a hint of juniper and again chocolaty wood. Currently perhaps not as exciting as in its early youth, but still excellent.

Editor note: Clear, firm nose, very light floral notes, ripe, predominantly black berries, hint of dried herbs and some undergrowth. Firm, dark fruit on the palate, light toasted, smoky oak, pepperyspice and some dark chocolate, good substance and persistence, fine, sandy, ripe tannins, light bite, full body, some depth, still young, earthy and salty mineral notes in the background, spicy, smoky notes on a very good, firm, dark, juicy finish.
