The winery is located in the municipality of Deutsch-Schützen-Eisenberg in the Austrian wine-growing region of Eisenberg. The basis for the quality was created by the senior boss and winegrowing pioneer Hermann Krutzler. Today, Reinhold Krutzler is the fifth generation of the family to run the estate. The trained cellar master learnt under Willi Bründlmayer in Kamptal and gained international experience in France, Italy and South Africa. He is supported by his son Clemens, who contributes innovative ideas (e.g. a small barrel of Welschriesling was mash-fermented in 2020).
The vineyards cover 12 hectares of vines in the Weinberg vineyard (Deutsch-Schützen) and plots on the Eisenberg. They are 97% planted with the red wine varieties Blaufränkisch (85%), Zweigelt and Merlot, with the remainder planted with Welschriesling. Sustainable viticulture is practised, taking into account ecology, economy and social components in accordance with the rules certified by Nachhaltig Austria in 2020. Careful thinning out is a quality-enhancing measure.
Fermentation takes place in traditional open or closed fermentation vats. Depending on the quality level, the wine is then gently pressed within 14 to 28 days. The malolactic fer mentation of the red wines takes place either in stainless steel tanks and/or in large or small oak barrels. Depending on the type of wine, the wines are matured in stainless steel tanks or in traditional large wooden barrels.
The flagship of the house is the red wine "Blaufränkisch Perwolff", which is made from the best Blaufränkisch grapes of each vintage and matured for 18 months in 500-litre barrels. Perwolff is an old name of Deutsch-Schützen from the 13th century. The winery's new logo is also derived from the name; the "Wolff" in the form of a silhouette of the animal adorns every label. The winery is a member of Renommierte Weingüter Burgenland.
