2019 Neuenahr Sonnenberg Spätburgunder Grosses Gewächs, Ahr, Germany

Quite deep, smoky and dried-herbal nose of black and red berries with some iron, nutty tones, a touch of pepper and tar. Clear, taut, tangy fruit, nutty, delicately toasty, peppery, dried herbal and smoky aromas, youthful, fine sandy tannin, persistent on the palate, salt and iron again in the background, tobacco and mushroom nuances, a little cocoa and coffee, good depth, still young, very good, firm finish. Closes up with air at first and then needs another day to show what it's made of again.
