2004 Dernau Pfarrwingert Spätburgunder Auslese trocken, Ahr, Germany

Prominent oak on the nose, dried flowers, preserved and dried mixed berries, some alcohol. Full-bodied on the palate, but not all that concentrated, jammy soft fruit, very creamy, with loads of alcohol, sugar candy, some sage, moderate but astringent tannins, not particularly deep, alcoholic and astringent again on an otherwise attractive to good finish. Starting to lose its contours.

Editor note: Spicy nose, red berries, smoky and mienral notes, racy. Shows character and backbone on the palate, delicately sweet red berry fruit is well balanced by a hint of acidity, elegant mienral notes and integrated tannins, alcohol provides additional depth, overall has quite good structure and substance, good finish.
