2016 Nierstein Pettenthal Riesling Grosses Gewächs trocken, Rheinhessen, Germany

Nose still slightly reductive, but also firm and deep, tremendously complex, yeasty notes, hint of yellow spice, citrus and stone fruit, hint of gooseberries, etheral notes, some black berries, nuts, sesame and some fennel seed. Very firm, juicy, bone dry, polished fruit on the palate, extremely concentrated and persistent, very elegant, lively acidity, prominent ripe, fine sandy tannins, tremendous depth, quite grippy with gripping mineral notes, which is only prevented from dominating the wine because it has so much more to offer, tart herbs and prominent salty notes, light floral notes, maritime notes reminiscent of algae and mussel shells, hint of green bacon, complex, extremely taut, cool, tart, and an extremely long finish of a quality one does not see often in a lifetime. Leaves one speechless.
