currently 170,541 Wines and 25,157 Producers, including 3,410 classified producers.
The winery is located in the municipality of Hattenheim (part of Eltville) in the German wine-growing region of Rheingau. It was founded in 1953 by Johann Josef Lang. The winery was acquired in 2013 by the Swiss Urban Kaufmann (former owner of an Appenzeller cheese dairy) and Eva Raps (former GF of the VDP). Kaufmann is the oenologist in charge and is assisted by Eckart Waitz. Eva Raps is responsible for marketing and sales. The vineyards cover 20 hectares of vineyards in the single vineyard sites Hassel and Wisselbrunnen (Hattenheim), which are classified as Grosse Lage (VDP), as well as in the Erste Lage (VDP) Schützenhaus (Hattenheim). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling (80%), Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Silvaner, as well as Pinot Noir. In 2009, the entire conversion to organic viticulture took place, so that all wines are certified according to organic guidelines as of the 2012 vintage.
After the presentation of the first three wines of the 2014 vintage, a complete wine line called "Kaufmann" was launched with the 2015 vintage. Both the Rieslings and the white Burgundy varieties as well as the Pinot Noir will be marketed with the new outfit in the future. The clear and precise character of the organically produced wines is intended to reflect their Rheingau origins and bring the winery back to the top of the VDP Rheingau in terms of quality. The striking red décor refers to Urban Kaufmann's Swiss origins, as does the name of the branded wine "Tell", a high-quality Riesling cuvée from the estate's best sites. The annual production of wine and sparkling wine is around 140,000 bottles of wine. The winery is a member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates).
