The "K+K Kirnbauer" winery is located in the municipality of Deutschkreutz in the wine-growing region of Mittelburgenland (Austria) in the midst of the farm's own vineyards. The family business was taken over by Walter and Irmgard Kirnbauer in 1975. Today it is run by Markus Kirnbauer. The vineyards cover 45 hectares of vineyards, which are widely scattered in the Baumfeld, Fabian, Gartenäcker, Goldberg, Hochbaum (with Zweigeltreben planted in 1960), Hölzl, Hölzläcker, Kart, Mitterberg, Neuberg, Pallischkreuz, Rohrbrunn, Satz, Siglos, Steinriegel, Tschikken and Weiselkreuz vineyards. They are 90% planted with the red wine varieties Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, St. Laurent. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah, the rest with the white wine varieties Welschriesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The quality criteria in the vineyard are a high vine density, short pruning with a low number of eyes per vine, thinning out (green harvesting) for the purpose of yield reduction and intensive foliage care. Environmentally friendly cultivation is carried out according to the certified rules of Nachhaltig Austria, including the renunciation of insecticides and herbicides. Only physiologically ripe and healthy grapes are processed through selective manual harvest ing in several passes of each individual grape.
Vinification is carried out according to non-invasive principles with as little intervention in the cellar as possible (as much as necessary, as little as possible). All wines meet vegan requirements. The fruity white wines mature for a few months in stainless steel. The red wines complete the malolactic fermentation in large oak barrels and then mature for at least another year. The top red wines, however, are aged for at least 18 months in the approximately 1,000 barrique barrels. These are partly made of oak wood that comes from our own forest in the Deutschkreutz district of Girm. The barrique barrels are sprinkled several times a day with selected and relaxing music (e.g. by the well-known violinist Toni Stricker) for the effect of special "vibrations". The flagship of the house is the extremely long-lived red wine cuvée "Das Phantom", which is blended from Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah and matured in French barriques. Other premium wines are the "Forever" (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot) and "Girmer" (Zweigelt), aged for 36 months in barriques. Wines dating back to 1974 are stored in the cellar, including the first phantom vintage from 1987. 200,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. The winery is a member of Vitikult and Blaufränkischland Mittelburgenland.
