The winery is located in the community of Rossatz in the Lower Austrian wine growing region Wachau. The traditional business was founded in 1898 and taken over in 1993 by Josef "Huchenpepi" Fischer (also known as a professional fish breeder of the genus Huchen) and his wife Ulrike. Since 2010, son Josef "Joe" Fischer is responsible for the cellar and vineyard. The vineyards comprise nine hectares of vineyards in the Frauenweingärten, Kirnberg, Kreuzberg, Steiger and Zanzl areas. They are planted with Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. The product range includes various wines, which are marketed in the three area brands Steinfeder, Federspiel and Smaragd according to the guidelines of the Vinea Wachau Nobilis Districtus association. The "Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Privat" is also bottled in the large bottles Magnum (1.5 l) and Methusalem (6 l, 8 normal bottles). About 60,000 bottles of wine are produced annually.
