The winery is located north-east of Bolzano, at the entrance to the Valle Isarco, in the Italian wine-growing region of
South Tyrol (
Trentino-South Ty rol region). It has been family-owned since 1982 and is managed by Urban Plattner. In 1996 they started to process and market the grapes themselves and in 2005 they put their own cellar into operation. The vineyards at 400 to 500 metres above sea level cover three hectares. They are planted with the red wine varieties Vernatsch (main variety), Pinot Noir, Malvasia (Frühroter Veltliner), Merlot and Lagrein, as well as Sauvignon (Sauvignon Blanc)
Organic viticulture is practised according to the guidelines of
Bioland and certified/controlled by ABCERT. By sowing various grasses and herbs, such as mallow, phacelia, several types of clover and other
legumes, the diversity of species in the vineyard is to be preserved and
beneficial insects promoted. Through appropriate
foliage management and selective harvesting, only healthy and ripe grapes are processed
After the grapes have been transported in small crates, they are gently processed without pumping. During vinification, the company motto "less is more" applies. Depending on the type of wine, at least some of the wines are matured in wooden barrels. The premium wines include the white wines from the Sauvignon and Malvasia varieties. The winery is a member of the associations
Bioland and
Freie Weinbauern Südtirol
