The "Weingut in den Zehn Morgen" is located in the municipality of Bretzenheim in the German wine-growing region of Nahe. Its origins date back to 2013, when the vineyards of the formerly important Ökonomierat August E. Anheuser winery were offered for sale. Steffen James Montigny is the managing director, Stefan Schmidt is the cellar master and Andreas Kretzschmar is the sales manager, with the aim of continuing the tradition of great wines from Bad Kreuznach and revitalising the potential of the historic vineyards.
The old vines have been supplemented with new plantings. The vineyards cover 40 hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Hofgarten, Kahlenberg, Kauzenberg, Krötenpfuhl, Narrenkappe and Steinberg in Monopol(Bad Kreuznach), Pastorei (Bretzenheim) and Schlossberg (Burg Layen). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Chardonnay,Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc, as well as the red wine variety Pinot Noir.
The vineyards have been cultivated in a near-natural way since 2016. This includes cover crop between the rows of vines, composting to improve soil life and no herbicides at all. Since the 2022 vintage, the vineyards have been cultivated according to certified organic viticulture rules.
The large product range with over 30 wines is divided into the Erste Lage, Große Lage, Gutswein, Ortswein and Riedenwein lines. Spontaneous fermentation with the vineyard's own yeasts takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. Depending on the type of wine, the wines are matured in stainless steel or in wooden barrels (300 litre, 500 litre, double barrel). The red wines are bottled without filtration. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced.
