The winery is located in the community of Bad Dürkheim-Leistadt (area Mittelhaardt/Deutsche Weinstraße) in the German wine-growing region Palatinate. The traditional family has been involved in winegrowing for several generations. The marketing of bottled wine was started in 1955. A guest house is attached. Today three generations work in the family. Rudi Hanewald and Petra Schwerdt are the plant managers, Thomas Hanewald is the cellar master, Stephan Schwerdt and Barbara Hanewald are responsible for sales, and Rudolf Schwerdt is responsible for outdoor operations.
The vineyards cover 26 hectares of vineyards in the individual locations Hochbenn (Bad-Dürkheim), Paradiesgarten (Deidesheim), Reiterpfad (Ruppertsberg), as well as Herrenmorgen and Kalkofen (Leistadt). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Goldmuskateller, Müller-Thurgau,Pinot Blanc, PinotGris, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Morio-Muscat, Kerner, Scheurebe, Huxelrebe and Ehrenfelser, as well as the red wine varietiesPinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Dornfelder, Regent, St. Laurent, Lemberger (), blue Portuguese, heraldic vine and acolon stocked.
The philosophy of the house is: "Riesling is destiny, great red wines a passion". The quality pyramid is divided into three lines. These are site wines (terroir-influenced wines from the best sites, red site wines according to the criteria of the Forum Pfalz with a maximum yield of 4,000 l/ha), local wines (quality wines dry and predicates with residual and noble sweetness) and estate wines (from estate vineyards and classified grape varieties). The flagship of the house is the red wine cuvée "Zweihänder" made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It also produces bottle-fermented sparkling wines, Secco (sparkling wines), grape juices and noble brandies (wine, grapes, yeast, marc, fruit). The winery is a member of the two associations Forum Pfalz and Generation Riesling.
