Weingut Grans-Fassian

The winery is located in the municipality of Leiwen in the German wine-growing region of Mosel. It was founded in 1624 and is now owned by the Gerhard and Doris Grans family. The vineyard area comprises ten hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Laurentiuslay (Leiwen), Apotheke (Trittenheim) and Goldtröpfchen (Piesport). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling (85%), Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc. The harvest is always very late. The vinification process involves careful selection of the grapes already in the vineyard, gentle processing, cool, slow fermentation and long yeast storage. Only two dry wines are produced each year. These are the estate Riesling and a selection from very old, partly ungrafted vines from Laurentiuslay. The only semi-dry wine is the cuvée "Catherina". The rest is in the residual and noble sweet range. Bottle-fermented Riesling sparkling wines and marc brandies are also produced. The winery is a member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates)
