2001 Spätburgunder B, Rheingau, Germany

Beautiful, pure and intense Burgundian aromas of wild berries and herbs, smoke, minerals, fillet of beef and a hint of oak. Cool, concentrated, with strong mineral notes in the mouth, still very youthful, some undergrowth, very elegant, fine-grained, ripe tannins, red berries on the palate, firm structure, concentrated, elegant acidity, very little oak remains, has grip and lovely length. Not an overwhelming blockbuster, but incredibly elegant, concentrated and complex. Definitely needs time to mature.
