The traditional winery is located in the municipality of Verrenberg, a suburb of Öhringen (Württembergisch Unterland) in the German wine-growing region of
Württemberg. The princes of Hohenlohe have owned vineyards here since 1360. The vineyard as well as the
VDP-classified Grosse Lage
Verrenberg is owned by Prince Kraft zu Hohenlohe-Oehringen. Joachim Brand is responsible as administrator and cellar master. The vineyards cover more than 18 hectares of vineyards, which are mainly planted with the white wine varieties
Riesling,
Pinot Blanc,
Chardonnay and
Sauvignon Blanc, as well as the red wine varieties Lemberger (
Blaufränkisch),
Pinot Noir, Pinot
Meunier,
Samtrot,
Merlot and
Cabernet Franc. Since the 2008 vintage, the
vineyard has been cultivated in accordance with the guidelines of
organic viticulture. Only
organic wines are produced.
The grapes are partly checked for damage and sorted. The wines are produced according to the
VDP classification model in the lines VDP-Gutswein, VDP-Ortswein and VDP-Grosse Lage. The complete wine maturing process is extremely gentle. White wines are mainly fermented in steel tanks. The red wines mature partly in large wooden barrels and partly in barriques. The annual production is about 140,000 bottles. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines, wine vinegars and distillates are also produced. The winery is a member of
Deutsches Barrique-Forum,
HADES, Quadriga and
VDP (Verband deutscher Prädikatsweingüter).
