The winery is located in the municipality of Montan/Montagna in the Italian wine-growing area of South Tyrol (Trentino-Alto Adige region). The traditional winery was founded in 1880 and is now managed in the seventh generation of the family by Franz Haas. It processes grapes from a total of 55 hectares of vineyards, most of which are owned by the company itself and some of which are leased or delivered by grape growers. The vineyards are located in the municipalities of Neumarkt, Montan and Aldein at an altitude of 240 to 1,150 metres above sea level with a variety of microclimatic zones and soils, from porphyric sand to clayey and very calcareous soils. The last vineyard was planted at 1,150 metres above sea level with Pinot Nero vines.
The white wine varieties Pinot Grigio(Pinot Gris), Pinot Bianco(Pinot Blanc), Riesling, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Petit Manseng, Moscato Giallo(Gold Muscat) and Sauvignon(Sauvignon Blanc) are produced there, as well as the red wine varieties Pinot Nero(Pinot Noir), Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Lagrein and Moscato Rosa(Rose Muscatel) are cultivated and processed.
The wines are fermented in steel tanks or in barriques, depending on the type of wine. The white wines are stored on the fine yeast for a long time. The red wines are mostly matured in barrique. The flagship of the house is the "Pinot Nero Schweizer", first marketed in 1990 (1987 vintage), which is only pressed in the best years. It matures up to 15 months in barrique and 12 months in the bottle. Other premium wines are the white wine cuvée "Manna" (Riesling, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon) and the Bordeaux blend "Istante" (Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Merlot; 18 months in barrique and 12 months in the bottle). The wine labels are designed by the famous Italian painter and architect Riccardo Schweizer.
