2022 Burg Layen Johannisberg Frühburgunder, Nahe, Germany

A somewhat herb-nutty, tobacco-like and smoky scent of partly preserved dark berries with a hint of beef, pepper, and a touch of lavender. Straightforward, rather warm fruit with nuances reminiscent of juniper, walnut, and sour cherries, distinctly bitter chocolate and spicy wood notes, hinted paprika powder, present, slightly drying tannin, in the background soot and cigar ash, earthy tones, slightly rustic style, good to very good, somewhat drying-woody finish.
