The winery is located in the municipality of Rümmelsheim in the German wine-growing region of Nahe. It is run by Georg and Margit Forster. Since 2013, the winemaking has been in the hands of their son Johannes Forster, who gained practical experience at renowned wineries on the Nahe, in Rheinhessen and in South Africa at Buitenverwachting. The vineyards cover 22 hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Steinköpfchen (Rümmelsheim), Jungbrunnen, Nixenberg and Trollberg (Dorsheim), Vogelsang (Laubenheim), as well as Hölle, Johannisberg, Rothenberg Schlossberg (Burg Layen). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Scheurebe, Rivaner (Müller-Thurgau) and Solaris, as well as with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Regent, Frühburgunder and Dornfelder.
Since 1994, organic viticulture has been practised according to the controlled and certified rules of the organic association ECOVIN. This includes insect hotels and nesting boxes in the vineyards to promote biodiversity (species diversity) and cover crop. Wild garlic, camomile, wild carrots and much more grow between the rows of vines. Special attention is paid to the vitality of the vineyard soils, thus laying the foundation for vital, healthy vines and providing a good basis for healthy grapes. The product range is divided into the lines Nahe wines (varietal wines), earth wines (from different soils with gravel, red slate and quartzite) and site wines (from plots of best sites). The premium wines of the house are Riesling vom Kies, Riesling vom roten Schiefer and Grauburgunder Réserve. Grape juice, sparkling wine, bottle-fermented sparkling wine and balsamic vinegar are also produced.
