2014 Süd-Steiermark Ried Pössnitzberg Chardonnay trocken STK Große Lage, Alte Reben, Styria/Steiermark, Austria

Somewhat developed, clearly vegetal nose with citrus and pome fruit aromas, nutty and delicately smoky tones, artichokes, hints of celery and a hint of capers. Firm, tart, rather cool fruit, very fine acidity and lots of grip, vegetal, nutty and smoky notes, a little mint, moderate barrel tones, lots of light minerality, seems a little more developed, but still has a fairly dense core, walnut and Brazil nut in the background, some ash, very good, firm, almost pithy finish with notes reminiscent of artichokes and capers, salt and smoke.

Editor note: Very firm nose, still slightly reductive, deep and complex, slightly smoky, elegant vegetal aromas and yellow fruit, light toasted notes, hint of tobacco, floral traces, prominent mineral notes. Quite elegant and firm again on the palate, juicy dry fruit, very elegant, lively acidity, touch of smoky oak, elegant vegetal and herbaceous aromas, concentrated and persistent, good depth and grip, prominent mineral notes, still largely undeveloped, complex, deep, tart finish. A great wine just seen on its own, for the vintage it is a sensation.
