The winery is located in the municipality of Leutschach an der Weinstraße in the Austrian wine growing region of Southern Styria. The winegrowing in the traditional family goes back to the year 1650. The great upswing began in 1992 after his education at the Silberberg technical school for viticulture with Erwin Sabathi junior joining his parents' business in the tenth generation of the family. Together with his two younger brothers, Gerd and Christoph, all key positions of the business are covered by the family. The motto of the house is: The wines are the contemporary interpretation of tradition. In 2004, a newly built wine cellar was put into operation, for which the owner was awarded the "Viktor Geramb-Dankzeichen für Gutes Bauen in der Steiermark".
The vineyards cover a total of 39 hectares, 23 hectares of which are on the Pössnitzberg alone. They are exclusively planted with white wine varieties, namely Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, , Gelber Muskateller,Pinot Blanc and PinotGris. Since 2013 the winery has been a member of Steirische Terroir & Klassikweingüter (STK). The wines are vinified in the STK lines. The STEIRISCHE KLASSIK line comprises fresh, fruity wines matured in stainless steel tanks. The DORFWEIN line comes from various vineyards within the municipality of Leutschach an der Weinstraße.
The line FIRST SITUATION includes wines from the sites Poharnig® (monopoly site entirely planted with Sauvignon Blanc by Erwin Sabathi in Pössnitz), Krepskogel (with Gelber Muskateller, Subriede vom Pössnitzberg) and Jägerberg (with Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris in Kranach-Gamlitz, Subriede vom Kranachberg). Village wines and first STK site wines are exclusively fermented spontaneously and then mature in large wooden barrels.
The wines of the top line GROSSE STK LAGE come from the 23 hectare, extremely steep area on the Pössnitzberg. Cultivation here is partly only possible by hand. Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are cultivated here. It is a very old vine stock with great importance for the company. The first core piece was already acquired in the 1950s. A speciality are the wines from the best grapes of the oldest vineyards under the designation "Sauvignon Blanc ALTE REBEN" as well as "Chardonnay ALTE REBEN". All these wines are matured in oak barrels and come to the market after 18 months of maturation. The winery is a member of the association Wein Steiermark.
