2018 Spätburgunder Reserve trocken "Grand Duc", Ahr, Germany

Firm and deep, quite complex aroma of black and red berries with nutty, dried floral and tobacco aromas, moderate wood spice, a little Mediterranean herbs, bacon and a hint of juniper. Very tightly knit, dense, tangy fruit, present, ripe, still slightly sandy tannins, some bite, smoky, nutty and dried-floral to tobacco hints, smoky, tangy wood flavours, again also a little juniper, lasting, good depth, still young, distinct minerality, multilayered, concentrated, somewhat chocolaty finish with tart juice and spice.

Editor note: Clear, quite polished and fresh aroma of more red than black berries with fine herbal and a little floral spice as well as a hint of juniper. Ripe, tightly knit, still rather undeveloped fruit, a little bacony and cocoa-spicy wood, also coffee notes, fine sandy tannin, salty minerality, persistent, has power but also cooling elements, spicy aromas, some vanilla, still undeveloped, good depth, very good, rather juicy finish. Needs to mature a little more
