Weingut Clüsserath-Eifel

The winery is located in the municipality of Trittenheim (Bernkastel area) in the German wine-growing region of Mosel. The ancestors of the current estate owner Gerhard Eifel started growing vines as early as 1760. A hotel with a restaurant is operated opposite the winery. To avoid confusion with the name Clüsserath, which is common on the Mosel, the bottle label has included the name "Galerie Riesling" since 1993. The vineyards cover four hectares of vines in the Bruderschaft (Klüsserath), Laurentiuslay (Leiwen), Rosengärtchen (Neumagen), Altärchen and Apotheke (Trittenheim) sites. They are planted exclusively with Riesling, of which over three hectares are in steep and steepest sites. The vines are traditionally cultivated using the Moselpfahlerziehungs-System (single-pole training). In the core area of the Apotheke site called "Fährfels", some plots are cultivated with ungrafted Riesling vines that were planted as early as 1900. This is where, among other things, the flagship of the house, "Eminenz", grows. The wines are vinified exclusively in stainless steel tanks with a volume of 280 to 3,000 litres, with the aim of producing wines with a strong emphasis on terroir. Around 25,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines and marc brandies are also produced.
