The winery is located in the municipality of Joching in the Lower Austrian wine growing region Wachau. It has been run as a family business since 1954. In the 1960s, Gerhard Eigl, a winegrowing pioneer, produced the first red wine in this area with the St. Laurent variety. In 2007 a newly built cellar was put into operation. A wine tavern in the neighbouring community of Wösendorf is connected to it. Since the 1980s, the winery has been run by Christian and Romana Eigl. The vineyards comprise 11 hectares of vineyards in the Engerweg, Kollmitz, Pichel Point, Postaller, Stein am Rain, Steinerne Brücke and Steinwand vineyards, most of which are located on steep terraces. They are planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Chardonnay, Early Red VeltlinerPinotBlanc, PinotGris and Rivaner(Müller-Thurgau), as well as the red wine varieties Zweigelt, St. Laurent and Blauer Portugieser. The white wines are fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks, the red wines mature for up to two years in large wooden barrels or in . The winery is a member of the Vinea Wachau Nobilis Districtus winegrowers' association.
