2011 Blaufränkisch VDP.Grosse Lage trocken "Dicker Franz", Baden, Germany

Slightly smoky, somewhat tobaccoy and clearly nutty-woody aroma of ripe predominantly black berries with a little plums, dried flowers and liquorice. Ripe dark fruit and lots of tart, smoky, also toasty wood, present, somewhat drying tannin, good persistence, warming alcohol, some bite, in the background dry herbs and bitter but also some milk chocolate, also in the good to very good finish slightly drying and bitterish-woody.
