2018 Appenheim Frühburgunder VDP.Ortswein trocken, Rheinhessen, Germany

Slightly smoky, somewhat vegetal to dried herbal and hints of animal aromas of partly preserved plums with a hint of red berries. Relatively dark, fine-juicy fruit with delicately creamy and slightly nutty-woody aromas, a hint of cocoa and nuances reminiscent of aniseed, ripe, crumbly tannin, good persistence, long pepper in the background, salty tones and some smoke in the good to very good finish.
