The "Benzinger Winery" is located in the community of Kirchheim a. d. Weinstrasse (area Mittelhaardt-Deutsche Weinstrasse) in the German wine growing region of the Palatinate. The foundation walls of the Leiningerhof, rich in tradition, date from the end of the 16th century. In the "Benzingers Restaurant", which is owned by the estate, regional Palatinate dishes and the estate's own wines are offered. The family business is run by Volker (oenology studies in Geisenheim
) and Inge Benzinger. Daughter Julia is a trained winemaker and responsible for the wine production. The vineyards comprise 13 hectares of vineyards in the individual locations Geißkopf, Kreuz, Römerstraße and Steinacker (Kirchheim), Schlossberg and Goldgrube (Bockenheim) and Schnepp (Obersülzen). Two thirds of the vineyards are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Sylvaner, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois and Sauvignon Blanc, and one third with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, Portugieser, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot
The land is cultivated in an environmentally friendly manner with greenery
(flowers and herbs), purely mechanical removal of weeds, exclusively organic fertilization
and pest control with mainly plant strengthening agents
. The grape harvest is done by hand for the most part. The transport of the grape material is carried out carefully without pumping or crushing by means of a conveyor belt. The character of the wines is to be preserved by spontaneous fermentation
and to emphasize their origin. Premium wines include "Kreuz Sylvaner - Alte Reben", "STEINACKER Riesling Kalkmergel", "STEINACKER Riesling", "August - der Rote" and "KREUZ Pinot noir - non filtré". Around 100,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. The winery is a member of the associations Generation Riesling and Generation Pfalz.
