2012 Riesling Edition Imperial Yellow, Rheingau, Germany

Dense and compact, tart vegetal to slightly tobacco and earthy nose with yellow fruity and mineral notes, spicy and delicately petroleum tones and a hint of black berries. Restrained, relatively sweet fruit with clearly vegetable and earthy to mineral tones, fine acidity, tobacco and old-woody notes on the palate, persistent, rather compact and firmly built, light tannin touch, delicate peppery and tart phenolic tones, which balance the sugar somewhat, still completely undeveloped, showing some depth, still a hint of covering, peppery, very good, again relatively sweet finish. A bit old-fashioned and slightly rustic, but very well done. Must mature.
