About Weingut Baron Di Pauli

One of the best producers of the region The wines keep constant high level and are usually the best in their respective category in the area.

The winery is located in the municipality of Kaltern (Caldaro) in the Italian wine-growing region of South Tyrol ( Trentino-Alto Adige region). It was founded in the 18th century by the noble Di Pauli family. In the 19th century, the family even owned the entire lake for a period of 25 years, until it was sold to the municipality of Caldaro in 1901. Anton Baron Di Pauli (1761-1830) was Austrian Minister of Trade and rendered special services to the wine industry. Thanks to its good relations with the Viennese court, the winery was allowed to adorn itself with the title of "K&K Hoflieferant" (purveyor to the court). In 1880 Josef Baron Di Pauli bought the property of Prince Giovanelli in Kaltern. The wines were exported as far as Russia. Various inns were also owned by the family, for example the oldest Viennese city wine tavern "Paulusstube", which still exists today. In 1998 the family joined the Cantina Kaltern as a member.

Baron Di Pauli - Weinberg 1

The wines themselves are pressed and marketed in the Cantina Kaltern. The cellar master in charge is Thomas Scarizuola. The winery comprises two sites, the "Arzenhof" near Kaltern and the "Höfl unterm Stein" in Söll near Tramin. The Arzenhof covers 10.5 hectares at 250 to 400 metres above sea level on a moraine rubble cone directly above Lake Kaltern. Lagrein, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are grown here. Of these, the red wines "Arzio" (Merlot/Cabernet) and "Carano" (Lagrein) are produced. Höfl unterm Stein covers 4.5 hectares at 480 to 550 metres above sea level on loamy limestone gravel soils, which are mainly planted with Gewürztraminer, as well as Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. From this, the white wines "Exilissi" and "Exil" (Gewürztraminer), "Enosi" (Riesling/Sauvignon) and "Kinesis" (Sauvignon) are produced.
