Editor note: Firm, deep, compact, complex nose, prominent vegetal and mineral notes, restrained yellow fruit, some raisins, hint of tobacco, dried flowers and some earthy notes. Ripe, firm, slightly off-dry concentrated fruit on the palate, nutty notes, hint of tobacco, vegetal and herbaceous notes, persistent and concentrated, firm grip, hint of black berries in the background, hint of coffee, slightly noticeable warm alcohol, good depth, still undeveloped, complex and compact, good substance, very good long, nutty finish.
Best to drink: 2019-2028+

The production area is located in the federal state of Hessen in Germany. The vineyards cover 3,211 hectares of vine area starting at the lower Main river east of Wiesbaden and extending about 50 kilometres along the right bank of the Rhine to Lorch north of Rüdesheim. The "Rheingau Riesling Route" wine route runs along the right bank of the Rhine from Lorch to Hochheim. Emperor Charlemagne (742-814) allegedly had the first vineyard planted near today's Johannisberg Castle.
