Editor note: Fairly firm, concentrated nose, still yeasty, also has vegetal and herbaceous notes, yellow spice, ripe, partly candied citrus and stone fruit, hint of tobacco, floral traces, intense mineral notes. Ripe, sweetish, juicy, firm fruit on the palate, firm, very elegant acidity, persistent, concentrated and quite grippy, ripe tannins, elegant vegetal aromas, firm mineral foundation, complex, good depth, excellent substance, still largely undeveloped, hint of sugar candy in the background, floral traces, hint of yellow spice, some citrus zests and mandarines, firm bite, very good, long, firm, sweetish, juicy and very minerally finish. Needs lots of time to mature.

The production area is located in the federal state of Hessen in Germany. The vineyards cover 3,211 hectares of vine area starting at the lower Main river east of Wiesbaden and extending about 50 kilometres along the right bank of the Rhine to Lorch north of Rüdesheim. The "Rheingau Riesling Route" wine route runs along the right bank of the Rhine from Lorch to Hochheim. Emperor Charlemagne (742-814) allegedly had the first vineyard planted near today's Johannisberg Castle.
