Editor note: Prominent yeasty and mineral notes on the nose, dried vegetal and herbaceous notes, hint of tobacco, stone fruit and some citrus aromas, smoky traces, earthy notes, touch of yellow spice. Sweetish, juicy, ripe, cool fruit on the palate, yeasty, vegetal and herbaceous aromas, very elegant, lively acidity, integrated tannins provide firm grip, persistent, fairly prominent mineral notes, hint of tobacco, light earthy notes, some more yellow spice, floral trac4es, clear contours, both tart and sweetish on a good to very good juicy finish.

The production area is located in the federal state of Hessen in Germany. The vineyards cover 3,211 hectares of vine area starting at the lower Main river east of Wiesbaden and extending about 50 kilometres along the right bank of the Rhine to Lorch north of Rüdesheim. The "Rheingau Riesling Route" wine route runs along the right bank of the Rhine from Lorch to Hochheim. Emperor Charlemagne (742-814) allegedly had the first vineyard planted near today's Johannisberg Castle.
