Editor note: Very firm, deep, tart and quite enchanting nose, black and some red berries, hint of tobacco and some smoky notes, balsamic notes, pomegranate, elegant floral and herbaceous traces, prominent mineral notes. Cool, polished, brilliantly clear fruit on the palate, very juicy, lively, elegant acidity, very fine youthful tannins, herbaceous and delicate floral aromas, some more pomegranate and balsamic notes, persistant, lively and complex, delicate smoky notes, prominent salty mineral notes, very elegant and transparent, seem to dance on the palate, still largely undeveloped, but already very appealing, peppery traces, some bite, elegant spice, cool and juicy on a very good, long finish.

The production area is located in the federal state of Hessen in Germany. The vineyards cover 3,211 hectares of vine area starting at the lower Main river east of Wiesbaden and extending about 50 kilometres along the right bank of the Rhine to Lorch north of Rüdesheim. The "Rheingau Riesling Route" wine route runs along the right bank of the Rhine from Lorch to Hochheim. Emperor Charlemagne (742-814) allegedly had the first vineyard planted near today's Johannisberg Castle.
