The winery is located in the municipality of Bahlingen (Kaiserstuhl area) in the German Baden
wine region. The name was given after the typical volcanic rocks that are widely spread in the Kaiserstuhl. The two owners Roland Treffeisen and Willi Würstlin are management consultants in their main profession. Their families have been growing wine in Achkarren and Bahlingen for several generations. The vineyards cover only a scarce hectare of vineyard area in the individual locations Schlossberg
(Achkarren), Silberberg (Bahlingen) and Steinfelsen (Bickensohl). They are planted with the varieties Blauer Spätburgunder (0.5 ha), Grauburgunder (0.2) and Weißburgunder (0.2 ha). Great attention is paid to grapes that are as ripe and healthy as possible. The hand-selected grapes are quickly processed and gently pressed. The red wines are aged in barriques for about 12 months after the classic maceration. During this process we work with different oak woods and every year a proportion of new wood is used.
