The winery is located in the municipality of Göttlesbrunn in the Carnuntum wine-growing region (Lower Austria). It was opened in 1987 with 4.5 hectares of vineyards. The winery is run by Walter Glatzer, who is one of the up-and-comers and co-founders of the so-called "red wine miracle" in the region. He is supported by his wife Doris, daughter Hanna and son Mathias. The vineyards cover 54 hectares in the Altenberg, Bernreiser and Haidacker vineyards. More than 50% are the estate's own property, the rest comes from long-term contract winegrowers who work according to the winery's quality specifications.
The red wine varieties Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, St. Laurent and Merlot make up 75% of the vineyards, while the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc make up 25%. The vine density was successively increased to 5,000 vines/hectare to relieve the vines. High foliage walls allow for increased assimilation and thus better energy yield and higher degrees of ripeness. Appropriate measures result in moderate yields and thus higher must concentration. Starting with the 2018 vintage, work in the vineyard will be carried out according to certified organic viticulture rules; biodynamic cultivation is planned for the future.
In the cellar, attention is paid to fast processing, cleanliness and hygiene in order to achieve high-quality and pure wines. The red wines are fermented on the skins in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation is then carried out in large wooden barrels or in barriques, after which the wines are aged in different oak barrels according to the vineyard parcel. The white wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks for varietal typicity and are stored for a long time on the fine lees. The premium wines include the brand "Dornenvogel" (a red wine made from Zweigelt, a white wine from Grüner Veltliner), "Rubin Carnuntum" (Zweigelt), Sauvignon Blanc Altenberg and the red wine cuvée "Gotinsprun" (Blaufränkisch, Syrah, Merlot, Zweigelt), named after an old name of Göttlesbrunn. About 250,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. The winery is a member of the winegrowers' associations Rubin Carnuntum Weingüter and Traditionsweingüter Österreich.
