The winery is located in the municipality of Linguaglossa (metropolitan city of Catania) in the Italian wine region of Sicily. There has been a vineyard estate for several generations. The current company was founded in 2002 and the first harvest was in 2008. The company is run by Eugenio Vivera as managing director, his partner is Antonino Vivera. The vineyards cover 30 hectares in the areas of Etna (12 hectares), where the winery is located, and Corleone (18 hectares). No grapes are purchased. Chiaramonte Gulfi also produces extra virgin olive oil. The red wine varieties Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Petit Verdot, and the white wine varieties Carricante (with mass selection), Inzolia, Catarratto Bianco and Chardonnay are cultivated and processed. The entire processing in the vineyard and cellar is carried out according to certified rules of organic viticulture.
The vinification is carried out in an extremely gentle way, using gravity in the cellars, which are almost entirely underground. These are kept in green, yellow, blue and red according to the principles of colour theory, depending on the activity. The product range includes DOC Etna Contrada Martinella in Bianco, Rosso and Rosato and IGP wines Terre Siciliane in Rosso and Rosato from the Corleone site. The premium wines are Martinella Etna Contrada Martinella Rosso (90% Nerello Mascalese and 10% Nerello Cappuccio, fermentation and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel, ageing 3 years in French barrique, 2 years in the bottle) and Salisire Contrada Martinella Etna Bianco (100% Carricante, fermentation and 2 years ageing on fine yeast in stainless steel and 2 years in the bottle). The annual production is about 100.000 bottles of wine, 45% of which are exported to Belgium, Japan and Australia. The winery is a member of Consorzio Etna DOC and Strade del Vino dell'Etna.
