Editor note: Tart, dried planty and floral, also herbal nose with tart yellow fruity, mineral, a little yeasty and also smoky notes. Dense, tart, bright, quite juicy fruit, very fine acidity, some grip, dense and persistent on the palate, a hint of dark berries, good depth, distinct minerality, again a hint of smoke, very good, firm, juicy and mineral finish with grip

One of the three wine-growing regions in Slovenia in the east of the country on the borders to Austria (southern Styria) and Hungary. The name means "Drauland". It lies between the rivers Mura (Mur) and Drava (Drau) with the wine-growing centre Maribor (Marburg). In this town there is an allegedly 400 year old vine (see Žametovka). One of the most important Slovenian wine routes also begins in the old town centre. The first vines were planted in this area by the Celts some 2,400 years ago. The Romans influenced viticulture especially in the area of Poetovium (Ptuj = Pettau). The Roman wine author Pliny the Elder (23-79) mentioned viticulture in the Karst region and described these wines as an elixir of life. During the migration of peoples, viticulture came to a standstill again. But in the Middle Ages, the wines were highly valued at the courts of the imperial Wien and archbishopric of Salzburg.
