The winery is located in the municipality of Pozzolengo (province of Brescia) in the Italian region of Lombardy. It was founded in 1930 by the Swiss industrialist Frederico Zweifel and further developed by his son Giusto. In the 1980s, his son-in-law Giovanni Felice Azzone followed, who introduced new winemaking methods and began bottling from the 1988 vintage onwards. His wife Annarosa Zweifel dedicated herself to the restoration of the old farmhouse in the style of the 14th century. The family tradition is carried on by his three daughters Sara, Vanessa and Babettli Azzone. Paolo Fabiani is in charge of the farm.
The vineyards cover about 100 hectares of vineyards on the southern shore of Lake Garda on soils rich in clay and limestone, which are among the oldest in the area. Grapes are also purchased in very small quantities of only 1%. The red wine varieties Barbera, Sangiovese, Groppello Gentile, Marzemino, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as well as the white wine varieties Trebbiano di Lugana and Turbiana(Verdicchio Bianco) are cultivated and processed. Only ripe and healthy grapes are selected by hand and processed.
The white wines are aged in steel tanks after gentle pressing. The red wines mature in barriques after destemming and maceration in steel tanks. The product range includes DOC wines Garda, Lugana and Riviera del Garda Bresciano. The premium wines of the house are the DOC red wine Garda "Ca' d'Oro" (from dried grapes Cabernet Sauvignon, 24 months in barrique, 12 months in bottle) and the DOC white wine Lugana "Limne" (Turbiano from over 50-year-old vines, 12 months stainless steel, 6 months in bottle). Spumante and Grappa are also produced. About 700,000 bottles of wine are produced annually, 80% of which are exported to Northern Europe (mainly Germany, Netherlands) and the USA.
