The winery is located in the municipality of Sclafani Bagni in the province of Palermo on the island of Sicily. It was founded in 1830. At that time, the two brothers Don Lucio and Don Carmelo Mastrogiovanni Tasca acquired the former Regaleali feudal estate with around 1,200 hectares of land. The estate was managed by Lucio Baron Tasca, one of Sicily's agricultural pioneers. Under the leadership of his grandson Count Tasca of Almerita (+1892), the wine of Regaleali became known far beyond the borders. His son Lucio Count Tasca Bordonaro enlarged the estate and tripled the vineyards. As a result of an agricultural reform, the estate was finally reduced to 500 hectares. From 1957 onwards, Giuseppe Count Tasca took over the responsibility and dedicated himself above all to viticulture with numerous innovations. Today, the company is managed by his son Conte Lucio Tasca. In 1999, a state-of-the-art wine cellar was put into operation. Here there are antique wall vats made of cement coated with resin, stainless steel tanks, and wooden barrels from Slavonia, Allier and Tronçais. The barrique barrels have a volume of 350 litres (compared to the usual 225).
The vineyards cover 500 hectares of vines. The oldest vineyard, named "San Lucio", was planted in 1959. The white wine varieties Catarratto Bianco, Chardonnay, Inzolia, Grecanico (Garganega), Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Bianco (Pinot Blanc) are cultivated, as well as the red wine varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Nerello Mascalese, Nero d'Avola, Perricone, Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir) and Syrah. However, another forty Italian, Greek, Spanish and French varieties are also grown on an experimental basis. Three artificial lakes protect the vineyards from the hot sirocco winds. The winery is best known for its IGT brand wine "Regaleali" (Royal). The "Regaleali Bianco" is blended from the varieties Inzolia, Catarratto and Sauvignon. The Rosso and Rosato varieties are produced from Perricone and Nero d'Avola. The top products are "Nozze d'Oro" (Inzolia and Sauvignon Blanc), as well as "Rosso del Conte" (mainly Nero d'Avola). Around 2.3 million bottles of wine are produced annually. About 40% is exported, mainly to Germany and the USA.
